Our Services
We offer private tuition for GCSE, A-Level, and university students through one-to-one lessons and small group sessions of up to three students. All major exam boards are covered, including support for homeschooled learners. Sessions are available in person in Sidcup and Southeast London and online across the UK, with a focus on exam preparation and long-term academic development.
GCSE Tuition
GCSE tuition at LITutors is practical, focused, and exam-aware. When exams are approaching, lessons are firmly centred on:
- GCSE exam-style questions,
- feedback,
- GCSE mark schemes, and
- targeted GCSE revision of key content.
When there is more time, we use exam practice and set literature texts (two birds with one stone) to deepen critical thinking and improve analytical writing. Students learn how to approach questions calmly, understand what examiners want to see, and express ideas clearly and coherently before the pressure kicks in. This balance ensures progress without unnecessary stress or distraction.
A-Level Tuition
A-Level English requires a significant shift in analytical thinking, and many students struggle with the jump from GCSE. Expectations around analytical and critical writing and reading are much higher than during GCSE years and nothing prepares students for this. At this level, our focus is on academic maturity rather than motivation as students already want to study English. We support students in:
- developing sophisticated interpretations,
- writing sustained, coherent arguments,
- building confidence and improving study habits,
- engaging with literary criticism, and
- positioning their ideas within a wider field of study.
Most A-Level students work with us consistently across one or both years of study.
University English Tuition
A university English course can feel overwhelming, with reading lists often spanning multiple pages for a single module. Assessments are more loosely defined, and students must acquire completely new ways of learning to cope with the challenge. University doesn’t hold students’ hand, but we help students build their own frameworks for:
- approaching large reading loads,
- writing in a formal academic register,
- understanding academic expectations, and
- refining arguments and developing a critical voice.
We guide thinking and planning, we question and challenge, we provide feedback and someone to discuss ideas with, but we never write essays for students. Our aim is to encourage independence, clarity, and confidence.
